Oncotarget: Publishing New Cancer Treatment Methods

Dr. Mikhail Blagosklonny and Andrei V. Gudkov are two of the most brilliant oncologists today working at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. They have been dedicating their time studying cancer and how it can be treated. Because of their will to fight the disease, Dr. Mikhail Blagosklonny and Andrei V. Gudkov teamed up to create Oncotarget, a publication that releases weekly issues through hard copied journals or the internet. Oncotarget aims to publish new information about cancer, share it with their fellow oncologists around the world, and inform the public about their discoveries. Oncotarget has been around for seven years, and through its lifetime, the scientific journal which solely tackles cancer have reached millions of people around the world. Cancer remains incurable despite the advancement of technology. However, oncologists are not losing their hope that one day, the disease will be eliminated and humanity would never have to think about chemotherapies and other medicines related to cancer because it would no longer exist by then. Dr. Mikhail Blagosklonny and Andrei V. Gudkov have been working on a project to extend the life expectancy of humans and to combat aging through the use of rapamycin, a substance that is believed to have a violent reaction with cancer cells eliminating them once they have been introduced to a host. The project has been dubbed as ridiculous by some scientists after it was published through Oncotarget, but several years later, many of them are now seeing the possibility of using rapamycin to extend humanity’s life to hundreds of years. According to Dr. Mikhail Blagosklonny and Andrei V. Gudkov, this is why they decided to establish Oncotarget – to give researchers a platform where they can voice out their discovery and fight for it despite the criticisms that they are receiving from their colleagues in the scientific community.
